SYRINX
SYRINX is a new contemporary choral project based in Vauxhall, South London.
We sing a wide range of music. New songs and old songs with a focus on harmony and heart. Our repertoire is a curious mix of music you might know alongside a few things you almost certainly won't. Medieval chants, pop bangers, environmental protest songs, new choral compositions, urban shanties & Finnish herding calls. Have a listen to our playlist to get more of a sense of what happens when we sing together.
We're around 50 voices and mostly sing in 4-6 part harmony, always unaccompanied. We perform regular concerts in amazing spaces and venues, sometimes in collaboration with other artists and choirs.
The choir's name SYRINX comes from the vocal organ of birds. In Greek mythology, Syrinx was a beautiful nymph who metamorphosed into a reed from which Pan then made his panpipes. Claude Debussy, Benjamin Britten and several other composers have written works inspired by the character Syrinx, and that beautiful bird-like sound.
SYRINX is run by singer, composer and choir leader Ben See:
"I started SYRINX because I wanted a choir which offered something a little bit different. We sing a varied and interesting mix of music, and we sing it really well. This is a lovely community of singers, and we have a great time making music together. There really is nothing better than singing great songs with great folks!"
